As I read today's devo I really enjoyed the two pictures of the swiss army knife and the fencing. The swiss army knife example stuck out the most. It made me think about the scripture in Hebrews which also says the Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12 ESV

Thinking within the swiss army knife context, the sword or Word has multiple uses. Not only is it a tool of defense and attack against an enemy, but it is also a tool we use to help ourselves. Sometimes some things need cut off of us. Sometimes there is soul surgery that needs to be done and as we look to the Word, the perfect law of liberty, we see things there that should not be. The Word, which is Christ, then cuts those things out of us. We don't wield the sword the same at this point because we are using it differently but it is the same sword.

I thought about todays message most of the day as “words” are something Holy Spirit has highlighted for quite some time. Isaiah 55 was immediately placed on my heart today as I am reminded how important words are and every word spoken is a “seed” - words will produce something (life or death / blessing or curse). It very important to consider what we are releasing over ourselves and others. Just as God’s word does not return empty but accomplishes what it meant to accomplish, so do words that are released from us. Always consider the intention of the words being released to others and over self. ““For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭ESV‬‬
